Clearing up misconceptions

September 23, 2017

If you happen to have been on social media in the last couple weeks, you've no doubt read many different opinions and responses to President Trump's announcement to end DACA. And, if you're like me, you've been frustrated at how few responses are rooted in facts.

That's why I decided to answer some of the most common questions I've seen floating around with this handy info sheet.

(You can also find it as a PDF here.)

So many prejudices seem to be based on a lack of facts and a failure to realize the humanity tied up in the politics.

That's why I was also glad to come across this collection of "Dreamer Stories"--first hand accounts of DACA recipients. Hopefully stories like these will help open some eyes.

And that's why we're also excited to be sharing some stories ourselves!

Coming soon: Stories from Kitsap

In the next couple weeks, we will start sharing stories here on the blog. We will share stories from local community leaders working on social justice causes as well as community members who are dealing first hand with issues like immigration.

Again, we hope that sharing stories will help shed light on the realities that so many people live with as well as bring a human element to all these political debates.

We're excited to meet back here soon with our first story out of Kitsap.

P.S. If you're looking for actions to take regarding DACA, be sure to check out our "Recommended Actions" on the "Immigrant and Refugee Rights" section of our website.
